Psychotherapy (reserved practice — psychothérapie, not a stand-alone title)
Regulator: SPF Santé publique / FPS Health — psychotherapy is regulated as a reserved treatment method under the mental-health-care professions framework (no separate psychotherapist register)
CPDNo legally mandated number of CPD hours, and no stand-alone 'psychotherapist' title/register in Belgium. Under the Law of 4 April 2014 as amended by the Law of 10 July 2016 (and following Constitutional Court judgment 130/2017), psychotherapy is treated not as an independent profession but as a treatment method that may be practised autonomously only by clinical psychologists, clinical orthopedagogues and physicians who have completed the required specific psychotherapy training and professional internship. Others (e.g. certain grandfathered practitioners under transitional provisions) may practise only within a defined framework/under conditions. Because there is no separate psychotherapy licence, there is no separate CPD hour requirement; practitioners fall under the CPD/competence expectations of their underlying regulated profession (clinical psychology, clinical orthopedagogy, or medicine).
No specific live / interactive hour requirement

Home study: N/A — no separate psychotherapy licence or mandated CPD hours

Board notes: Belgium restricts psychotherapy practice to specified regulated professions rather than licensing 'psychotherapists' as such. Transitional/grandfathering provisions cover practitioners active before the 2016 reform. Any CPD obligation flows from the practitioner's base profession, none of which sets a counted national CPD hour requirement.

Psychologist (protected title)
Regulator: Commission des Psychologues / Psychologencommissie (Belgian Psychologists Commission) — independent federal public body administering the register of the protected title 'psychologist'
CPDNo legally mandated number of CPD hours. The title 'psychologist' is protected by the Law of 8 November 1993 and administered by the Commission des Psychologues, which maintains the register (~19,000 registrants) and enforces the Code of Deontology (Royal Decree of 2 April 2014). The Code sets a professional-competence duty — psychologists must work within the limits of their competence and keep their knowledge and skills up to date with developments in the discipline — but it does not quantify this as a fixed annual/cyclical CPD hour requirement, and there is no statutory continuing-education audit tied to renewal of the title. Registration is maintained by paying the annual contribution rather than by documenting CPD hours. CPD is therefore an ethical expectation, not a counted legal obligation, for the protected title.
No specific live / interactive hour requirement

Home study: N/A — no mandated CPD hours

Board notes: The protected title 'psychologist' (Law of 8 Nov 1993) is distinct from the healthcare profession 'clinical psychologist'. Holding the title alone does not authorise clinical/healthcare practice. The Commission is a title-and-ethics regulator with a Disciplinary Council, not a healthcare licensing body; its CPD language is competence-based (self-maintenance of expertise) rather than an hour count.
