Minnesota

• Social work ethics — 2 h
• Cultural responsiveness — 4 h

• Supervision (licensing supervisors only) — 6 hLicensees who provide licensing supervision must complete 6 CE hours in supervision content each renewal (30-hour supervision training required before first providing supervision)

Home study: Up to half (50%) of the 40 hours, i.e. 20 hours, may be completed through CE independent learning; Minn. Stat. 148E.130 subd. 1(a)(4).

Board notes: Biennial (2-year) renewal. All social work licensees must complete 40 hrs including 2 hrs ethics and 4 hrs cultural responsiveness. LICSW must additionally include 12 clinical-content hours. No more than half (20 hrs) may be independent learning. Licensing supervisors need 6 supervision-content hours at renewal. Hours are prorated for renewal terms shorter/longer than 24 months. No live/interactive minimum and no tele-mental-health hour mandate.

Minnesota

Home study: No published cap - all 40 hours may be completed via board-approved CE (live synchronous and/or asynchronous/home study); all must be counseling-related.

Board notes: Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy. Minn. Stat. 148B.54 subd. 2 requires the equivalent of 40 clock hours of board-approved CE per 2-year renewal, of which at least 4 hours must address cultural responsiveness/diverse populations. During the first renewal (first four years) a licensee instead completes 12 additional postgraduate semester credits and/or 40 CE hours (15 CE hours per semester credit). No separate ethics-hour mandate and no live/interactive minimum in statute; all CE must be counseling-related. Keep documentation five years for audit.

Minnesota

No specific subject mandates — general CE hours only.

Home study: No cap stated; distance/home-study and audio or audio-visual electronic participation explicitly permitted.

Board notes: Minnesota Board of Psychology requires a minimum of 40 hours of board-approved CE per renewal period (biennial). No subject-specific mandates (no ethics, cultural, suicide, or tele hours). Attendance may include participation by audio or audio-visual electronic communication, so there is no live/in-person minimum. Licensees must retain original CE documentation for eight years after the renewal date.

Board notes: Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy. 40 hours per 2-year cycle ending December 31 of odd-numbered years, including 3 hours ethical/professional studies and 4 hours cultural competency. Board-Approved Supervisors must additionally complete 4 supervision hours. No live/interactive minimum and no tele-mental-health hour mandate in Minn. R. 5300.0320.

Minnesota

Home study: No state cap; BACB permits recorded/online (learning) CEUs broadly, subject to BACB's own format rules.

Board notes: Minnesota licenses behavior analysts (Licensed Behavior Analyst, LBA) through the Board of Psychology. Minn. Stat. 148.9984 requires renewal every 2 years and, as a condition of renewal, evidence of a current and active national certification as a behavior analyst (BCBA/BCBA-D from the BACB). Minnesota statute/rule specifies no separate state CE hour total, so the effective CE standard is the BACB recertification baseline: 32 CEUs per 2-year cycle including 4 ethics CEUs, plus 3 supervision CEUs for those who supervise. If the Board later adopts its own CE rule this may change.
