- Ethics and professional conduct (including boundary issues) — 2 h839 IAC 1-6-3(c): a minimum of 1 of the 10 required Category I CEUs each licensure year must focus on ethics/professional conduct, from a Category I provider = 2 CEUs across the 2-year cycle, all Category I.
Home study: At least 20 of the 40 CEUs must be Category I (formal programming); no more than 20 may be Category II (self-directed). Under 839 IAC 1-6-1, accredited home-study programs (computer/audio/video) qualify as Category I, so there is no separate live/in-person mandate.
Board notes: Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board (IC 25-23.6). 839 IAC 1-6-3 governs LBSW/LSW/LCSW uniformly with MFTs, mental health counselors and addiction counselors: at least 20 CEUs each licensure year (10 Category I + up to 10 Category II) - hours cannot be back-loaded. Renewal period is 2 years beginning April 1 of even-numbered years (licensure year runs April 1-March 31); CEUs may not carry over between periods and records must be kept 4 years. No supervision-hours CE is mandated by the renewal rule (supervisor status is a separate qualification, not a renewal CE topic). Rule last readopted June 24, 2024.

LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor)

Home study: At least 20 of the 40 hours must be Category I and no more than 20 may be Category II. Under 868 IAC 1.1-15-1, home-study programs count as Category I only up to 10 credit hours per license period; 'individualized learning' (including approved audio/video and professional supervision) counts as Category II up to 10 credit hours per period.
Board notes: Indiana Psychology Board (868 IAC 1.1-15). CE is required only for psychologists holding the Health Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP) endorsement - 868 IAC 1.1-15-11(a) ties the 40-hour requirement expressly to HSPP-endorsed psychologists; a licensed psychologist without HSPP has no mandated CE. Two-year license period. No live/in-person minimum, but home-study and individualized-learning caps (10 hrs each) effectively require most credit from organized Category I programming.

BCBA (national) / Indiana Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA)

- Abuse and neglect OR mandatory reporting — 1 h844 IAC 21-3-1(a): 1 CE unit in either abuse and neglect OR mandatory reporting each cycle. May double-count toward BACB.
Home study: No state cap. BACB Learning CEUs may be earned online/recorded; Indiana imposes no separate live or self-study limit.
Board notes: Indiana separately licenses behavior analysts (Behavior Analyst Licensing Board, IC 25-8.5; 844 IAC 21). The LBA license does not set its own total CEU number - it requires the licensee to attest to holding a current BCBA (BACB certification), so the operative CE volume is the BACB standard of 32 CEUs per 2-year recertification cycle (including 4 ethics and, for supervisors, 3 supervision). On top of that, 844 IAC 21-3-1 adds two Indiana-specific topic units - 1 in trauma-informed care and 1 in either abuse/neglect or mandatory reporting - which may also be used to maintain BACB certification (they can double-count, not necessarily add to the 32). LBA renewal is biennial, expiring December 31 of odd-numbered years.
