LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker)
30hours / 3-year renewal cycle
No live / interactive hours required — all hours may be self-study
Mandated topics
  • Kentucky Code of Ethical Conduct (ethics) — 3 h3-hour board-approved ethics course required each renewal period
  • Clinical Social Work Supervision — 3 hEach renewal period, only for LCSWs who are board-approved clinical supervisors
  • Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse — 3 hOne-time, during the three-year renewal period following initial licensure
  • Suicide Assessment, Treatment and Management — 6 hAt least once every six years
  • Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma — 1.5 hAt least one time every six years

Home study: No live/in-person mandate and no home-study cap. 201 KAR 23:075 allows all hours (including the ethics course) to be completed in person OR through technology-mediated learning (distance/online/web-based or self-paced self-study).

Board notes: 30 hours per 3-year cycle for CSW/LCSW (LSW require only 15 hours per 3 years). Governing CE regulation is 201 KAR 23:075 (baseline incorrectly cited 23:080). Suicide (6 hrs) and pediatric abusive head trauma (1.5 hrs) run on a 6-year sub-cycle; domestic violence/elder abuse is a one-time new-licensee requirement.

LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor)
10hours / 1-year renewal cycle
No live / interactive hours required — all hours may be self-study
Mandated topics
  • Continuing education in or related to the field of professional counseling — 10 hAll 10 annual hours must be in or related to professional counseling; the regulation does not mandate a separate ethics-hours quota
  • Domestic Violence — 3 hOne-time, within three years of initial licensure
  • Suicide Assessment, Treatment, and Management — 6 hWithin first three years of initial licensure, then every six years thereafter
  • Kentucky Counseling Law (KRS 335.500-335.599 and 201 KAR Chapter 36) — 3 hEvery three years of licensure

Home study: No live/in-person requirement and no home-study/self-study cap in 201 KAR 36:030.

Board notes: Renews ANNUALLY at 10 hours/year (same for LPCA and LPCC). 201 KAR 36:030 does NOT impose a standalone ethics-hour requirement (baseline's 3-hour ethics topic was not found in the regulation). Domestic violence (3 hrs one-time), suicide (6 hrs, first 3 yrs then every 6 yrs) and Kentucky counseling law (3 hrs every 3 yrs) run on multi-year/one-time sub-cycles rather than per annual renewal. Instructors who teach a board-approved mandatory-topic course are deemed to have met that topic.

Licensed Psychologist
39hours / 3-year renewal cycle
No live / interactive hours required — all hours may be self-study
Mandated topics
  • Ethical practice or Risk Management — 3 h3 hours in either ethical practice or risk management each 3-year renewal period
  • Social and cultural factors that affect health, functioning, and quality of life — 3 hConfirmed in 201 KAR 26:175 - 3 hours each 3-year renewal period
  • Suicide Assessment, Treatment, and Management — 6 hWithin the first year of licensure and every six years thereafter (exemptions exist)
  • Supervision theory or techniques — 3 hEach 3-year renewal period, only for psychologists who supervise

Home study: No caps. Current 201 KAR 26:175 removes caps on hours earned through home study, internet-based courses, and interactive videoconferencing. A CE hour equals a 55-minute clock hour of instruction.

Board notes: Three-year cycle (39 hrs); NO carry-over of excess hours. The social/cultural-factors 3-hour requirement is now confirmed in the regulation text (baseline listed it as unverified/null). Home-study and videoconferencing caps cited in the baseline (12 hrs home study / 24 hrs videoconferencing) no longer apply - the current regulation removes them.

LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)
15hours / 1-year renewal cycle
No live / interactive hours required — all hours may be self-study
Mandated topics
  • Professional Marriage and Family Therapy Ethics — 3 h3 of the required hours each annual renewal must be in MFT ethics
  • Suicide Assessment, Treatment and Management — 6 hEvery six years (beginning January 1, 2015)
  • Domestic Violence, Elder Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation — 3 hOne-time, within three years of initial licensure or certification
  • Supervision — 2 hAnnually, only for non-AAMFT board-approved supervisors (201 KAR 32:035); AAMFT-approved supervisors instead do 1 hr/yr of Kentucky law

Home study: No live-only mandate and no general self-study cap in 201 KAR 32:060. Credit as a program presenter or for a publication is each capped at one-half of the renewal requirement.

Board notes: Annual renewal at 15 hrs/yr for licensees (associates 10 hrs/yr). Governing CE regulation is 201 KAR 32:060 (baseline incorrectly cited the psychology reg 201 KAR 26:175); supervisor CE is in 201 KAR 32:035. Suicide (6 hrs every 6 yrs) and domestic-violence/elder-abuse (3 hrs one-time) run on periodic/one-time sub-cycles, not per annual renewal.

BCBA (national) / Kentucky Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA)
32hours / 2-year renewal cycle
No live / interactive hours required — all hours may be self-study
Mandated topics
  • Ethics — 4 hBACB standard: 4 of the 32 CEUs must address ethics
  • Supervision — 3 hBACB standard: 3 supervision CEUs required for certificants who supervise

Home study: No state cap. Recorded/online BACB ACE-provider CEUs are broadly accepted.

Board notes: Kentucky licenses behavior analysts through the Applied Behavior Analysts Licensing Board (KRS 319C, 201 KAR Chapter 43). The state renewal regulation 201 KAR 43:080 does NOT set its own CE hour count - Kentucky licensure is tied to holding current BACB certification, so the operative CE standard is the BACB requirement of 32 CEUs per 2-year cycle (including 4 ethics CEUs, plus 3 supervision CEUs for those who supervise). Applicants also attest to reviewing KY statutes/regulations.
