Home study: Online CE permitted; Illinois requires each online CE program to include an examination. BACB caps learning-type CEUs but permits online/self-study within limits.

Board notes: Illinois separately licenses behavior analysts (LBA) and assistant behavior analysts through IDFPR under the Behavior Analyst Licensing Act. Per 68 Ill. Adm. Code 1376.50, state CE begins at the 2027 renewal: LBAs need 30 hrs and assistant behavior analysts 20 hrs per 24-month cycle, with NO separate ethics carve-out and no CE required for the first renewal (online CE must include an exam). The BACB national standard of 32 CEUs/2yr (incl. 4 ethics; +3 supervision for supervisors) that BCBAs must meet to keep certification exceeds and currently governs in practice. Behavior analysts are also ANCRA mandated reporters (training every 3 yrs).
