Home study: Not more than 10 hours may be earned through asynchronous online education, distance learning or home study; not less than 5 hours must be in-person or synchronous online education with opportunities for live interaction.

Board notes: Regulated by the CT Department of Public Health on a 12-month (annual) registration period of 15 hours. First-time renewal applicants are exempt from CE until the next registration period. Courses must be offered/approved by ASWB, NASW, accredited social work programs or other nationally recognized organizations.

BCBA (national) / Connecticut Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA)

  • Ethics — 4 hBACB requirement: minimum 4 ethics CEUs per 2-year recertification cycle.
  • Supervision — 3 hBACB requirement for certificants who supervise (approx. 3-3.5 CEUs, rising to 4 in 2027). Not required for non-supervisors.
  • Screening for PTSD, suicide risk, depression and grief plus suicide prevention — 2 hConnecticut statutory requirement (Sec. 20-185k, since Jan 1, 2022): at least 2 hours at the first license renewal and not less than once every six years thereafter. May be satisfied by the evidence-based youth suicide prevention training under Sec. 17a-52a.

Home study: No state cap; BACB permits recorded/online (learning) ACE CEUs. Note: effective July 1, 2026, BACB asynchronous CE must include at least 3 knowledge-check questions per CEU.

Board notes: Connecticut separately licenses behavior analysts (DPH Licensed Behavior Analyst). The CT license is renewed ANNUALLY and requires (1) evidence of current BACB certification and (2) the 2-hour PTSD/suicide-risk/depression/grief screening and suicide-prevention training at first renewal and at least once every six years thereafter. The 32 CEU / 2-year figure (incl. 4 ethics, plus supervision CEUs for supervisors) is the national BACB recertification standard the CT license depends on, not a separate CT hour count. Connecticut imposes no unique ethics, cultural-competency or veterans training beyond the statutory suicide/PTSD module.
