Home study: No more than half of the annual hours (maximum 12.5 hours/year) may be met through self-directed learning (Continuing Education Policy s.3.4).

Board notes: Minimum 25 hours of continuing education per year per the PEISWRB Continuing Education Policy (s.2.3). CE must address at least one of six content areas (e.g., social work practice, ethics, research, administration/management, theory) per s.3.1. No more than half of hours may be self-directed learning (s.3.4). Records must be retained for three years. Requirement is annual (1-year cycle).

Board notes: Minimum 60 hours of professional development over a rolling 3-year period; new registrants (registered less than 2 years) must complete at least 20 hours annually. Permissible activities: clinical supervision, workshops/courses/conferences, self-directed study (max 8 hrs/yr), and personal participation in counselling therapy as a client. Registrants must complete a self-assessment and develop a learning plan within 60 days of registration or renewal and identify at least one learning goal annually. Separate professional currency requirement for registration/renewal: within the preceding 3 years, complete a qualifying master's degree, at least 750 practice/currency hours, or an approved refresher program. Counselling therapy is regulated under the PEI Regulated Health Professions Act (Counselling Therapists Regulations).

At least 20 hours must be interactive/structured. The Board may prorate the requirement for registrants who have held a certificate for less than one year. Requirement is annual (1-year cycle).
