Mandated topics
- Required credits category (structured activities: accredited courses, conferences, workshops, field instruction, professional education delivery) — 20 hAt least 20 of the 40 credits must fall in the required credits category; the remaining balance may come from either required or elective credits.
Home study: Elective credits (informal/self-directed activities such as reading, self-study, mentoring, in-service, committee work) may make up no more than the balance above the 20 required credits, i.e. a maximum of 20 elective credits per registration year.
Board notes: Registered social workers must complete a minimum of 40 continuing professional education (CPE) credits each registration year (March-February), of which at least 20 must be from the required credits category. CPE is mandated by the Social Workers Act and the NLCSW Standards of Practice and is grounded in the CASW Code of Ethics. Credits are tracked and transferred at renewal through the MyNLCSW online portal. Proration, waiver or deferral may be requested if the 40-credit minimum is not attained. Professional Education Delivery is capped at 10 credits annually; Field Instruction is worth up to 40 credits in the first year and up to 20 credits in subsequent years (halved when shared). No separate mandatory ethics-hours or live/interactive-hours minimum is prescribed.

Psychologist
Regulator: Newfoundland and Labrador Psychology Board (NLPB)
CPDThe NLPB requires registrants to complete and report annual continuing education (CE) each calendar year as part of its Quality Assurance program, submitted with the yearly renewal. CE is organized into five categories: Category A (formal accredited programs of study; certificate of completion required; minimum 5 to maximum 15 hours, with the Board directing registrants to complete 10 hours from Category A); Category B (self-study to keep current with regulatory, academic and professional literature; maximum 10 hours per calendar year); Category C (structured professional learning activities; maximum 10 hours per calendar year); Category D (maintenance of ethical practice knowledge; minimum 5 hours per year, drawn from activities in Categories A, B and/or C); and Category E (diversity, equity and inclusivity in psychology; minimum 5 hours per year, drawn from Categories A, B and/or C). The Board does not publish a single crisp aggregate annual hour total; requirements are expressed through these category minimums and maximums.

Board notes: Annual (calendar-year) CE tied to yearly registration renewal and reviewed by the Board's Continuing Education Committee under the Quality Assurance program. Category A (formal, accredited) requires a certificate of completion, min 5/max 15 hours (Board messaging directs 10 hours from Category A). Category D mandates at least 5 hours per year of ethics-related activity and Category E mandates at least 5 hours per year on diversity, equity and inclusivity, both satisfied by designating relevant hours from Categories A/B/C (not necessarily additive). The NLPB regulates psychology under the Psychologists Act, 2005.
