Board notes: CCTNB regulates Licensed Counselling Therapists (LCT) and LCT-Candidates (LCT-C); LCT-Candidates must always practise under active supervision to maintain a valid licence. The Rules are in a transitional period and the only fixed continuing-competence obligation identified is the College-appointed ethics course every 3 years; a numeric CPD/CE hour total was not published as of July 2026. Marriage and family therapy is not separately regulated in NB and falls within the counselling-therapy scope where applicable.

Home study: Self-study (reading professional journals, the Code of Ethics, bylaws, legislation, CPNB/CPA or other professional publications) is capped at 10 of the 20 hours per year (Rule 2.03.01). 'Support in advancing the profession' activities (committee work, professional supervision, publications, presentations) are also capped at 10 hours per year (Rule 2.03.03). 'Direct participation' (lectures, workshops, conferences, peer consultation, Indigenous cultural safety training) can supply up to the full 20 hours (Rule 2.03.02).

Board notes: Registrants must earn 20 continuing-education credit hours each calendar year (Rule 2.01); the cycle is annual, not multi-year. CPNB performs random audits every year, and non-compliance leads to removal from the register, with restoration requiring proof of completion plus a reinstatement fee ($500 first occurrence, $1,000 subsequent). Non-practising, retired, interim and student members are exempt from audit. No specific number of ethics hours is mandated; ethics reading counts within the self-study category.
