Home study: Both formal and informal activities count; up to 80 excess hours may be carried forward into the next two years

Board notes: NWT Registered Social Workers (RSW) and Licensed Social Workers (LSW) must complete 40 hours of continuing competency activities (a mix of formal and informal activities) per three-year cycle, affirmed by statutory declaration every 3 years. A maximum of 80 excess hours may be carried over into the next two years. Activities must be directly related to, or relevant to, social work practice in the NWT; there are no specific mandated topics. Registrants keep a continuing-competency log sheet for 5 years and may be audited. Governed by the Social Work Profession Act (in force January 1, 2012) and its General Regulations; licensing is administered by the government Registrar.

Home study: A maximum of 12.5 hours may be counted in any single activity category per year

Board notes: The NWT Continuing Competency Program (CCP) for Psychologists requires 25 hours of CCP activities each registration year (February 1 to January 31). No more than 12.5 hours may come from any one category, and at least 5 hours each year must come from designated activity categories (which include Indigenous cultural awareness training, mentorship, peer consultation, committee participation, self-directed learning, and presenting at courses/conferences). Indigenous issues in psychology are emphasized across qualifying activities. Psychology has moved under the umbrella Health and Social Services Professions Act with the Psychology Profession Regulations; licensing is administered by a government Registrar rather than a self-regulating college.
