Social Worker (Assistente Sociale) and Specialist Social Worker (Assistente Sociale Specialista)
Regulator: Ordine degli Assistenti Sociali (regional Ordini, sections A and B of the Albo) coordinated by the Consiglio Nazionale dell'Ordine degli Assistenti Sociali (CNOAS). CPD governed by the Regolamento per la formazione continua deliberated by the National Council on 22 October 2022, in force from 1 January 2023.

  • Continuing formation credits (crediti formativi) across accredited events and activitiesTotal obligation is 60 crediti formativi per triennium; events must be attended for at least 80% to earn credit. Generally 1 credit per hour of activity.
  • Professional-order regulation and deontology / ethics (crediti formativi deontologici)At least 15 of the 60 credits must concern the professional ordinamento and the deontological code (Codice Deontologico). These deontological credits are a mandatory subset, not additional to the 60.

Home study: FAD (e-learning) events are permitted; each single accredited event (residential or FAD) may be authorised for a maximum of 45 credits. Individual/self-directed activities are capped per activity type (e.g. supervision, teaching, tutoring each up to a maximum of 20 credits in the triennium; publications up to defined maxima). No single non-event category may substitute for the whole obligation.

Board notes: Assistente Sociale is a regulated profession with its own Ordine (Albo section B) and the Assistente Sociale Specialista (Albo section A); both are subject to the same triennial CPD obligation. The Regolamento (in force from 1 January 2023) sets 60 credits per triennium including at least 15 deontological credits. New registrants owe a pro-rated obligation depending on when in the triennium they enrol: 2/3 (40 credits, of which at least 10 deontological) or 1/3 (20 credits, of which at least 5 deontological). Exemptions/reductions exist for maternity (up to 20 credits, 5 deontological per pregnancy), illness/injury of 3+ months, family-leave (L.104/92), residence abroad and natural-disaster areas (each generally capped so that at most 45 credits/triennium are excused and the 15 deontological credits remain due). The triennium aligns to the ECM three-year cycle (2023-2025 closed; 2026-2028 current). Non-compliance is a disciplinary matter handled by the territorial disciplinary councils.
